Submissions to The Guyana Edit: Tell Us Something True

Submissions to The Guyana Edit are open to those who know Guyana the way you know a place you’ve loved: imperfectly, honestly, and from the inside.

The Guyana Edit welcomes pitches and proposals from writers, photographers, and storytellers with a genuine connection to Guyana, its people, its places, and its culture. We commission selectively and edit carefully. Read the publication before you pitch.

WHAT WE PUBLISH

We publish long-form features (1,000–1,800 words), dining and city dispatches, travel essays, cultural commentary, and field notes. All work must be original, unpublished, and rooted in lived experience or rigorous reporting. We do not publish listicles, press releases, or tourism marketing copy.

SUBMISSIONS: HOW TO PITCH

Send your pitch to submissions@theguyanaedit.com. Your pitch should be 200–400 words and include:

  • A clear description of the story, your angle, and why it matters now
  • Your connection to the subject, why you are the right person to tell it
  • Two or three published clips or writing samples
  • Proposed word count and your availability

WHAT MAKES A STRONG PITCH

‘I want to write about Georgetown’ is not a pitch. ‘I want to write about the Chinese-Guyanese restaurant owners who have fed Stabroek Market for three generations, and what happens when the last one retires’ is a pitch. The best pitches bring a specific angle, a point of view, and a sense of place. We are drawn to stories that come from memory and relationship, not press trips.

RESPONSE TIME

We aim to respond to all pitches within three to four weeks. If you have not heard from us after four weeks, you may follow up once.

PAYMENT

The Guyana Edit pays contributors for all commissioned work. Rates are confirmed at the time of commission, and payment is made upon publication. We acquire first publication rights to all commissioned work. All other rights remain with the contributor.

“All commissioned contributors will receive a Contributors Agreement before publication.”

PHOTOGRAPHY

We accept photography pitches and commissions. All images must be original and high-resolution (minimum 2,000px on the longest edge), with full rights clearance for any identifiable people photographed.

SUBMISSIONS: WHAT WE DO NOT ACCEPT

We do not accept unsolicited full manuscripts, AI-generated content, previously published work, or pitches unrelated to Guyana or the wider Caribbean region.

The Guyana Edit

Story, Soul, and Sense of Place.

The Guyana Edit is the first independent editorial publication dedicated to Guyana, rooted in story, soul, and sense of place. We write about Guyana not as a destination to be sold, but as a place to be known, through its food, its people, its landscapes, and the memory embedded in all three.
